Dry Decontamination in Japan: FAST-ACT Showcased to CBRN Leaders by Partner Taroumaru

FAST-ACT recently reached one of the most important CBRN audiences in Asia. Our Japanese partner, Taroumaru Co., Ltd., showcased FAST-ACT in Japan, introducing dry decontamination in Japan to military, fire service, and security professionals who respond to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.

The response was strong. Visitors from across Japan’s CBRN community stopped by the booth, and specialized teams within the Japan Self-Defense Forces and several local fire departments expressed direct interest in FAST-ACT.

Who is Taroumaru Co., Ltd.?

Taroumaru Co., Ltd. is based in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. The company represents some of the world’s most advanced technologies in Japan for chemical agent, biological agent, and narcotics detection. By adding FAST-ACT to its portfolio, Taroumaru can now offer Japanese responders a complete approach to chemical threats, from detecting a hazard to decontaminating, containing, and neutralizing it.

What happened at the exhibition?

The exhibition was a great success. Many members of Japan’s CBRN community visited the booth, and several described it as a surprising and interesting exhibit at the show. Attendees noted that it brought together a range of cutting-edge technologies they had not seen before.

Interest came from organizations that face complex decontamination challenges in the field:

  • Japan Self-Defense Forces runway and aircraft decontamination teams. These teams must restore critical infrastructure and assets quickly after a chemical incident, often in settings where water-based decontamination methods are impractical.
  • Japan Self-Defense Forces protective suit decontamination teams. Safely decontaminating personal protective equipment is essential to protecting personnel during doffing and recovery.
  • Local fire departments. As frontline responders to hazardous materials incidents, fire departments need rapid, water-free decontamination options for HAZMAT response.

Why does dry decontamination matter for CBRN response in Japan?

Japan has a unique perspective on chemical terrorism. The 1995 Tokyo subway sarin attack remains one of the most studied chemical incidents in modern history, and it shaped how Japanese agencies prepare for CBRN threats today.

Traditional wet decontamination requires water, setup time, and runoff management, which are key differences between wet and dry decontamination. FAST-ACT offers a dry alternative that decontaminates, contains, and neutralizes a broad range of toxic chemicals, including chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals. Because it does not rely on water, it can be deployed quickly on surfaces, equipment, and protective gear, which is critical during the first minutes of a chemical incident response.

How can organizations in Japan learn more about FAST-ACT?

The growing interest in dry decontamination in Japan reflects a broader shift toward faster, more flexible CBRN response tools, including hybrid approaches that combine dry and wet decontamination. FAST-ACT is proud to partner with Taroumaru to bring this capability to Japanese responders.
