FAST-ACT® Demonstrates Rapid Contamination Reduction Strategies at Southlake Health

On May 26th and 27th, FAST-ACT® partnered with Southlake Health and Allied Medical to host a hands-on demonstration focused on dry decontamination and contamination reduction strategies for healthcare, emergency response, and public safety professionals.

The event provided attendees with an opportunity to explore practical approaches for managing hazardous material incidents and reducing contamination risks before full wet decontamination operations are established.

The Importance of Immediate Contamination Reduction

During a chemical exposure or hazardous materials incident, every minute matters. While wet decontamination remains a critical component of many response protocols, healthcare facilities and first responder teams often face situations where immediate action is needed before full decontamination resources can be deployed.

Early contamination reduction measures can help limit the spread of hazardous substances, reduce the risk of secondary exposure, and improve overall scene management while additional response assets are mobilized.

The Southlake Health demonstration focused on these critical first actions, showcasing how dry decontamination techniques can be incorporated into existing response procedures to support both patient and responder safety.

Hands-On Demonstration of FAST-ACT® Solutions

Attendees participated in live demonstrations and practical exercises designed to simulate real-world response scenarios. Participants worked directly with FAST-ACT® solutions, like the FAST-ACT Rapid Decontamination Kit to understand how dry decontamination can be implemented during the initial stages of an incident.

The demonstration included:

These exercises allowed participants to observe and practice contamination reduction techniques that can be applied across a variety of hazardous material response scenarios.

Supporting Healthcare and First Responder Operations

Healthcare facilities and emergency response agencies face unique challenges when managing contaminated patients, equipment, and operational environments. Maintaining responder safety while preventing contamination from spreading throughout facilities remains a critical objective during any hazardous materials incident.

FAST-ACT® is designed to adsorb and help neutralize hazardous liquids and vapors, providing responders with an additional tool for contamination reduction efforts. By helping reduce contamination at the source, these measures can support broader decontamination operations and help lower the potential for secondary exposure to personnel, equipment, and facilities.

During the demonstration, participants explored how these capabilities can be integrated into existing response workflows, supporting preparedness efforts across healthcare, fire, EMS, HAZMAT, and other emergency response disciplines.

Building Preparedness Through Training

Preparedness depends on more than equipment alone. Effective response requires training, familiarization, and opportunities to practice procedures before an emergency occurs.

Events like the Southlake Health demonstration provide valuable opportunities for healthcare professionals and first responders to evaluate response strategies, discuss operational challenges, and gain hands-on experience with contamination reduction tools.

FAST-ACT® appreciates the opportunity to collaborate with Southlake Health, Allied Medical, and all participating professionals who attended the event. Through continued training, education, and partnership, organizations can strengthen their readiness for hazardous material incidents and improve their ability to protect both responders and the communities they serve.
